Six Baha'is arrested in Iran

New Delhi - 16 January – The Bahá’ís of India are deeply concerned to hear of the arrest of at least six Bahá’ís in Iran on 14th January, including a woman who worked at human rights organizations connected with Nobel prize winner Shirin Ebadi.

According to reports received from Iran, the six were arrested after government security agents raided the homes of at least 11 Bahá’ís. During the raids, they also confiscated Bahá’í books and other items, such as computers and photographs.

41 regional Bahá’í conferences are scheduled to take place over the next four months in cities around the globe, out of which three are taking place in India.

Supreme Court of India highlights Baha'i views on communal tolerance in Ayodhya decision

"A neutral perception of the requirement for communal harmony is to be found in the Baha'i Faith."  the Supreme Court of India wrote in a decision rendered on 24th Oct 1994 concerning the religious dispute between Hindus and Muslims over the Ayodhya Mosque.
