Meeting with the Honourable President of India

Bhopal, June 29, 2008: 4 representatives of NGO's of Madhya Pradesh, including a Bahá’í, were invited to meet the Honourable President of India, Mrs.Pratibha Patil in Rajbhavan, Bhopal.

On 26th June, the 4 representatives received a written fax invitation and phone calls from Bhopal as well as their local administration that:

Mrs. Manorma Joshi , Dr. Mrs. Janak Palta McGilligan, Mr. James McGilligan from Indore and Ms. Champa Behan from Sagar , 4 representatives of NGO's of Madhya Pradesh ,were invited by the Directorate of Women and Child Development, Government of Madhya Pradesh to meet the Honourable President of India, Mrs.Pratibha Patil in Bhopal, Rajbhavan on 29th June, 2008 during her first visit to the State All of us were the state guests in Bhopal. Our stay arrangements were made by the Directorate of Women and Child Development in Hotel Ashok Lakeview and we were looked after by the protocol officer Ms. Mamta Pathak the Deputy Director in Directorate. She came to pick us up at 6 PM in official car and we went through massive security check at Raj Bhawan (Governor House ). We were taken to an area where nearly 100 people from different walks of life were waiting to meet Her Excellency The President of India. It was about 8.p.m, when our names were announced to go in. This was the first group led Ms. Pathak the protocol officer.

It was an exclusive meeting of our group with her Excellency and they were introduced to her in following order:

1. Ms Champa Behan, a recipient of President award for her work at Satya Shodhan Ashram in Sagar district to prevent prostitution among the Bediya tribe.

2. Mrs Manorma Joshi , the first recipient of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Social Service Award for 2006 by Madhya Pradesh Government for her service at SEWA,Indore, "socio-economic development of women and bidi workers. Both of them shared their work and expressed some of their needs for help.
