Farmers' Gathering Explores Sustainable Agriculture and Community Well-being in Banthra

Farmers Gathering

Kurauni, Banthra, Uttar Pradesh | 5 July 2026 — A gathering of 40 local farmers was held in Kurauni, Banthra, Uttar Pradesh, to discuss sustainable agricultural practices, environmental stewardship, and the long-term well-being of farming communities. The event provided a platform for participants to consult on the challenges facing agriculture today and to exchange practical solutions for building more resilient and sustainable farming systems.

The gathering was organized by the Local Spiritual Assembly of Kurauni, Banthra, the elected local governing body of the Bahá’í community, which works to foster unity, social progress, and the spiritual and material development of society.

Discussions focused on the growing impact of intensive chemical farming, including declining soil fertility, rising cultivation costs, financial pressures on farming families, and the increasing reluctance of younger generations to pursue agriculture as a livelihood.

Participants shared practical alternatives to reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers by adopting sustainable farming methods such as the use of cow dung manure, vermicompost, and Jeevamrut. These approaches were highlighted for their potential to improve soil health, protect the environment, reduce input costs, and support healthier food production.

The consultation also emphasized the importance of cooperation among farmers, community participation, and the application of ethical values in addressing agricultural and social challenges. Participants agreed that long-term sustainability requires not only environmentally sound farming practices but also stronger local collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and a shared commitment to the well-being of present and future generations.

The gathering concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to supporting one another in adopting sustainable agricultural practices and strengthening the resilience of their communities through collective action.
